Thread cones, such as those from brands like Gütermann or Serafil, can be stored horizontally or vertically. With the horizontal method, the spools lie flat and the colour is immediately recognisable; with the vertical method, however, the spools stand upright and the colour code is immediately visible at a glance.
In the cabinet, the height of the drawers is modified and dedicated brackets are inserted that secure the spools and ensure that they do not move during drawer opening and closing operations.
Where did the demand for the horizontal cabinet with thread cones and spools come from?
The request for this special cabinet came from our customers, who needed to keep the thread used in their department tidy and protect them from light and dust.
In detail, a renowned shoe manufacturer in the Veneto region, Italy asked us for a custom-made cabinet to keep the thread spools tidy. The cabinet, which is 114 cm wide and 140 cm high (model ref. CO27_12_03), has had its drawer configuration modified to include 9 triple drawers for storing spools of thread in an upright position.
On the other hand, a French leather goods manufacturer asked us to modify the cabinet by inserting a special support to manage the spools horizontally in the drawer, so that they can be easily identified. In this case, we modified the cabinet with width 145 and height 100 cm (model ref. CO18_15_03), inserting 9 double drawers.
In both cases, the spools are firmly anchored in the drawer and do not move when opening and closing the drawer.
These set-ups have been designed for cones with a diameter of 74 mm and a height of 94 mm. If you use different cones, you can design a drawer configuration to suit your needs.

Materials and dimensions
The horizontal cabinet is made of galvanised steel and has a durable white painted top shelf. On request, it can also be fully painted.
The external dimensions of the cabinet remain unchanged; the arrangement of the drawers is modified according to the needs and storage mode.
The special drawer configuration is also available on the model with castors, which can be easily moved on a flat surface from one department to another.
In the case of the horizontal cabinet with thread cones and spools holder, double drawers and a divider with individual stations are inserted to hold each thread spool. On the other hand, in the case of the vertical cone and spool drawer holder, triple drawers are inserted with metal strip cone holder that take the full depth of the drawer to hold each thread spool.
Each drawer is equipped with slides and blue plastic handles for effortless opening, even when fully loaded.
The cabinet is easy to position. It is raised off the floor and, in the case of the classic model, is moved around the department using a pallet truck or forklift, whilst the model with wheels can be easily moved by pushing it from one department to another without the need for additional equipment.
It is fitted with the Stop&Go system, which allows only one drawer to be opened at a time, improving safety for operators, and there is no need to secure it to the floor or wall.
