When it comes to managing cutting dies, safety in the workplace is the top priority. One of the best ways to achieve this is to equip departments with reliable and safe equipment.
ABC dies storage cabinets, whether horizontal or vertical, are excellent pieces of equipment as they come fitted with the Stop&Go system, which allows only one drawer to be opened at a time, preventing the cabinet from tipping over.
This safety system is fitted as standard on all ABC cabinet, regardless of the drawer configuration.
What is the Stop&Go System?
The Stop&Go system is a mechanism included into the cabinet and it allows only one drawer to be opened at a time. To open another one, you must first close the one you are using. If you do not close the drawer, the others are locked and cannot be opened.
This solution is ideal for improving safety in any production department, avoiding risky situations caused to the simultaneous opening of several drawers, which could cause the cabinet to become unstable or tip over due to a shift in its centre of gravity.
With this system, it is no longer necessary to secure the unit to the floor or wall. In the case of layout changes in the department, repositioning is quick and easy.
The cabinet is moved with the pallet truck or forklift and inserted in the department. To ensure the safety of operators, it is important that the drawers are locked when the unit is being displaced.
Why it’s needed: the risk of cabinet tipping over
The cutting dies used in the workshop can be heavy to handle and store.
The load capacity of the drawers is 30 or 20 kg for the horizontal version, for models with feet and those with castors respectively, and 50 kg for the vertical version.
Meanwhile, the cabinet for heavy loads has a load capacity of up to 70 kg per drawer.
When several drawers are pulled out, the weight is concentrated at the front of the unit, making it unstable and increasing its risk of it tipping over.
With the Stop&Go system, this situation cannot occur, as it prevents drawers from being opened simultaneously. This ensures that the operator can work in complete safety, even when the drawers are fully loaded.
How does the Stop&Go system work?
The Stop&Go system is included in all ABC cabinet, both horizontal and vertical.
When the units are dispatched, the Stop&Go system is inserted, meaning the drawers cannot be opened for safety reasons.
Once the cabinet has been positioned in the department, the system must be unlocked so that the drawers can be opened and filled with dies or components.
The system is easily activated by moving the lever located at the back of horizontal cabinets and on the right-hand side of vertical cabinets.
Horizontal Cabinet
Stop&Go on horizontal and vertical cabinets
The Stop&Go system is fitted to all ABC drawer units:
- Horizontal cabinet (18 and 27 drawer ranges and wheeled versions): the drawers are 35 mm high and the cutting dies are arranged flat, without overlapping. The ideal position is next to the press machine; the operator has access to the drawers containing the sets of dies in use and a support surface.
- Vertical cabinet: designed for bulky cutting dies such as those used in saddlery, belt manufacturing and luggage production, or by companies that have large quantities of them. The cutting dies are hung on the perforated panels of the drawers and, depending on the model, can be inserted from either side or from one side only.
With a load capacity of 50 kg per drawer, anti-tip protection is essential.
- Cabinet for heavy loads: designed to organise workshop components. Each drawer can be customised with metal dividers or removable plastic trays to optimise the organisation of each component and speed up production times.
Each drawer has a load capacity of 70 kg. The inclusion of the Stop&Go system is even more important in this case, ensuring that operator safety is the top priority.

What are the advantages of Stop&Go?
The implementation of Stop&Go in the ABC cabinets offers multiple advantages, including:
- Increased safety: Thanks to the ability to open only one drawer at a time, the risk of accidents on the department and accidental cabinet tipping is significantly reduced.
- No need to fix it to the wall or floor: The cabinet is stable without brackets; therefore, there is no need to drill holes in the floor or walls to secure it.
- Flexible layout: If the layout of the department changes, the cabinet can be easily moved and repositioned using a pallet truck or forklift.
- A tidier department: Cutting dies are no longer stacked in boxes or on shelves, but are neatly organised inside the drawers of the unit, both horizontally and vertically. This reduces the time spent searching for items.
